The Depression forced the family to sell their gas station and their house, but his interest in rocks never wavered. And in the end the science museum he had visited so often realized that a person with rocks in his head was just what was needed.

Nonfiction picture books are a favorite in our house, and this one felt extra special. As a mom of boys, I couldn’t help but smile. If you’ve ever found rocks in your child’s pockets, you’ll understand why little boys love this story. I love how it honors a quiet, curious spirit and shows that a love of learning can take you further than anyone might expect.
