Miraculously, the hotel did not burn down, and the animals rebuilt their homes in the forest-but Antonio never forgot the time when he watched the distance between people and animals disappear.

This is based on a true event from the author’s grandfather’s childhood, when people and wild animals all sought safety from a forest fire at the same lake. The illustrations are stunning, and this little-known piece of history is worth learning about.
